Bleeding gums are inflamed or irritated pink tissue around the
mouth which bleed easily. Bleeding gums is a common problem of oral health. If
your gums bleed while brushing or flossing, you might shrug it off thinking it
is normal, but bleeding from the gums could at times signal an underlying
problem.
Signs and symptoms of bleeding gums
- Red coloured stain on your toothbrush after brushing.
- Slight blood when chewing gums
- Blood visible on teeth or lips.
- When you spit out saliva blood traces can be seen.
- Mouth Sores
- Lump on gums
- Loose teeth or teeth appear longer.
- Receding gums
- Excessive pain while chewing food or after eating crunchy foods.
Causes of Bleeding Gums
- Brushing too vigorously
- Using a toothbrush with hard bristles.
- Dentures or retainers which are not fitted properly.
- Bacterial infection in the tooth or gums.
- Hereditary.
- Use of blood-thinning medicines
- Gum bleeding is also caused due to poor lifestyle such as poor eating
habits. Consuming a lot of sugary foods and not maintaining proper dental
hygiene as this makes way for the bacteria to grow and causes swollen gums. - Smoking irritates gums and leads to bleeding gums.
- Sometimes pregnancy could also be the cause of bleeding gums
